We all experience stress; it is a normal part of life. Stress can actually be beneficial and often provides the push we need to get us moving – whether it is a looming deadline to complete a project, or the feelings of hunger that compel us to make a meal. Stress can be physical, mental, emotional, and even chemical in nature.
Stress can be positive and negative. For example, positive stress could be a happy occasion, such as the birth of a baby. The new parents may feel fatigued and a little overwhelmed, but they will also be experiencing great amounts of joy. It is the negative form of stress that can really take a toll on our bodies. We all experience milestones in our lives that are wonderful and those that are not. But it is how we handle these stressors and find ways to overcome them that is the key to our complete health and wellness.
The number one key to overcoming stress is to take care of yourself, to look after your own complete health and wellness. During stressful times, it is even more important to eat well, get adequate rest and remain active. Your body requires more energy to get through tough times and unfortunately, these are the times we are more likely to let our health and wellness go. Prolonged periods of stress can lead to the worsening of existing health problems and contribute to the onset of others. Keeping yourself in good health will help you deal better with whatever you are facing. It is easier to figure out how to deal with something when you are feeling strong and in complete health and wellness.
